KEREN ANN HAS GREAT HAIR AND OTHER KEY LEARNINGS FROM LAST WEEK

so keren ann has the best hair i've seen in a long time. black, perfect layers around her face and lovely fringey bangs. i almost want to grow mine out to effect the same effect. i think it works a bit better for a fab french jazz-indie-folk singer than for miss meg tho. we had a lovely time at the show thanks to the SFJ and lots of too many lychee martinis afterward w/k-a and entourage at sabine. note to self: lychee martinis, although they taste like lychee slushies, DO have alcohol in them!

that was wed nite. thurs brought the debut launch of kevin aaylidez's new poetry/photo book called the cistern, which i attended with the always wise and festive amy h. saturday brought many an interesting activity, including a sample sale sighting of daryl hannah (for the record she is beauuuutiful inperson and was wearing brand new navy converse chucks) hung out with holly's new pup, the fillmore, hit the musee on 6th/b and of course jj's debut at arlenes which was super duper fab. wow! he is hitting it these days. ifyou have a chance to see him live go do it!

sunday brought my free havainas at malia mills (white, in case you are wondering) and a plum bikini that looks straight out of michele' pfeiffer;'s wardrobe from scarface. it's HOTTTTT.
a little later, mexican hot cocoa and desparate housewives. i am addicted its true! that show makes me so tense i cant stop watching!!

BRIDGET JONES, SFJ AND OTHER FUN TIDBITS

even tho miss meg was coughing up a lung, and wasn't supposed to go out, how could she resist? the manolo, he would have approved. last week i swigged down my robutussin, donned my jimmy choos, and fave auburn mascara, and went bravely out into the night for an intimate screening of the new bridget jones movie (i think there were 40 of us there?) for the nantucket film festival in the basement of the bryant park hotel. what a lovely little room that is. renee zellweger came and opened the eve in a lovely green dress telling us how much fun she had making the movie, and helen fielding did a q&a afterward. both were extremely charming and sweet as was the movie. but that hugh grant. oh he is BAD. and when i say that i say it with my most nasal michigan accent accentuating the Aaaaa and drawing it all the way out. oh he plays such a cad in that movie and it looks so natural for him. oh goodness. we headed upstairs afterwards for a little nosh then i went to meet up w/my honey and met the SFJ and the cowboy/poodle and drew. was v. fun but then the robitussin that i had elegantly been swilling from the bottle started to kick in and i had to beeline it to bed before i fell asleep standing up. ew.

November 18, 2004

OH MY GOODNESS

it's a banner day. my book est arrivee!!! yes thats right my sweeties! my book is actually printed and in the world!! of course not yet in bookstores--that's may. but at least on my desk! eek!

oh and check out my interview on the latest issue of jc. fun.

THE MANOLO

said i was "super-fantastic"!

wheeeeee!!!!

do you think one day he might list me in his sidebar of blogs? i can only wish and dream!

THE MENS THEY ALWAYS ASK ME

good shoe questions. where do i get navy chuck taylor low-tops? what vintage store will i find men's dress shoes with a thin sole, roundish toe and not a big clunky sole that everyone wears these days?

sigh.

i wish i knew more about the mens. i am going to redouble my research efforts in an attempt to meet the needs of this very important constituency. in the meantime, hit INA men for vintage shoes or any salvation army in the midwest or thrift vintage shops in LA--you know the one i like the best in los feliz-- squaresville--they have the mens too.

November 16, 2004

OH MY SWEETIES!

i have missed you so! in the time i've been away, i had a birthday, i discovered "gators" from shelley steffee (more to come on these soon--you will freak because they are so major), interviewed the fabulous mr david gensler of the kdu and got bronchitis! so gauche the coughing i must say!

anyhoo, it has been a blast even thought the sad man did not win a few weeks back. all i can say my dearies is to be vigilant, take care of yourselves and speak out when you have an opportunity.

and now. on my latest discovery. the manolo. i have even started talking in sentences beginning "the manolo says". which you will too once you get addicted to one of the most hilarious blogs i have ever seen. must-read my dear sweeties!

November 2, 2004

HANG ON TO YOUR HATS, YOUR ROUND-TOED PUMPS AND YOUR FLAGS

it's going to be a wild four-year ride!

November 1, 2004

DID YOU SEE IT?

wheeeeee!

October 29, 2004

GODDESS ALWAYS KNOWS BEST

so when today show called for extra panelists i went up! at 8 am i arrived to mass chaos on the set as katie, al and company prepared for their costumes and a million cute kids in hilarious bear et al getups! but goddess knows best, and while they had too many people on set and didn't need miss meg for an extra body, miss meg did get to meet the most fabulous pomeranian, lola, who was there for pet dress-up ideas. now i dont know if you know this, but i am currently obsessed with pomeranians, and they magically have been appearing wherever i go lately, leading me to believe that goddess wants me to be the proud owner of a girl pomeranian very soon. i think griffin will love a girl pomeranian sister and i think i like the name jemma. what say you dear reader? isnt that toooo cute?

October 28, 2004

LOOK FOR MISS MEG ON THE TODAY SHOW TOMORROW MORNING

i actually have no idea what the segment is about my dear readers, i just got a call from one of the fabulous ladies at mama genas to show up at 8 am. apparently katie c is doing a fun talk show about something or another. and you know i love to be on TV and i especially love katie c and her most amazing shoe choices! she has great calves don't you think?!

October 26, 2004

ALL I KNOW

is that at 10 pm on a monday night designer shoe warehouse on union square was packed. the cat is out of the bag: people love shoes. it's a proven fact.

we bought some slipslips for my honey and i eyed a pair of silk printed red and blus round toe tommy hilfiger pumps, but i didnt buy, i am still taking it all in. dreaming of aisles and aisles of boots and shoes . . . ahhhhhh

October 24, 2004

DO MIU MIU, PRADA, CHRISTIAN LACROIX AND NICOLE MILLER MEAN ANYTHING TO YOU?

then get thee to dsw. though not as dirt deep discount as we like, it's still some good shoe lovin to be had.

ps.
i am going to do a comparison to century 21 prices next week, will let you know what's best.

October 19, 2004

HELLO CLEVELAND

but in this case it's actually hello new york. dsw is coming to nyc and i am about to pee mypants! can youimagine? hundreds of hundreds of SHOESSSSSSS. wheeeee!!! what i am secretly wishing is that DSW take advantage of it's new nyc locations to broker major deals with all the designers here in nyc to take those seasons old gunmetals and ashley dearborns off their books, and into our closets!! click here for discount if you live in nyc!

MISS MEGHAN IS A BAD BLOGGER

i know my sweet readers, i have been very bad with posting as of late. it's just that there's so much happening like the miss meghan $100 challenge, my article in Financial Times Weekend (look for it this weekend!) and of course putting together my reel which the very talented kevin grasman did for me. it is SO CUTE. i have to say. and kevvie made very cute pink and blue things on it to match my website. isn't that nice?

meanwhile the return of all ugly boots has now been unleashed thanks to the mucilage-ugg phenomenon making all people everywhere think it is ok to wear very sloppy ugly boots. i'm scared.

October 12, 2004

I AM HAPPY TO KNOW

that this man makes high heel boots for dolly parton.

October 9, 2004

THE KERRY ADMINISTRATION

just thought i'd say that.

October 6, 2004

MISS MEGHAN LOVES ALL WORLD LEADERS

i am working hard on the financial times article the fabulous julie levine asked me to help with, analyzing world leaders and their shoes. it has been too fun. i get to see all their different shoes and think about what that means about them. i think i should have been a psychologist. like a priests confession box, there would be a little sliding door for me to see my patients, except it would be at the ground level so i could see their shoes only. they could tell me their problem and i'd make an asessment based on their shoes. $100 a session! how about that! a little miss meghan sideline! hee hee

October 4, 2004

PS.

if you were up at 6:50 am you may have caught me on CBS morning news w/lynda lopez talking fall fash trends. metallics, color and texture if you are interested. i stick by that for fall.

OH MERCY!

well wasn't that so fun? sitting together with all the girls in the mercy high school cafeteria sipping martinis. everyone looked gorgeous and everyone is so accomplished and fabulous. '89 does rock!!!

ps.
i wanted to bathe in this, but instead i just slathered it all over oreos, rice krispy treats and creme puffs and stuffed my face.

October 1, 2004

THE WORLD IS YOURS

was feeling that last night on the west side pier, no people save one clarinet player treating me to summertime, a low dark sky, brisk wind, waves and lots of lit-up yachts slicing their way through the water.

UGGS ARE MUCILAGE FOR YOUR FEET

need i say more?

September 29, 2004

HURRICANE JEANNE IS SO POWERFUL

she knocked my ass right off the sunday morning show! i got pushed by hurricane coverage to NEXT sunday my dear readers. i hope you can tune in then.

in the meanwhile, i am contemplating shoes for fall and i am right now in love with a pair of 2 -inch kitten stacked wood heels in a nude/peachy color that i have on. i love the idea of a totally pale color for fall, don't you? i haven't yet gotten out my black boots and i am feeling like this is a fun little transition!

September 24, 2004

IF YOU LIVE IN NEW YORK AND ARE UP AT 8:45 AM ON SUNDAY

tune into CBS morning news where i will be dishing w/lynda lopez on individualizing your fall look!! too too fun!

September 23, 2004

I HAVE IT ON VERY GOOD AUTHORITY

that this is the only place to be for boots. all i can say is that my eyes lit up when i clicked. what do you all think of a pair of missmeghan cowboy boots? pink and brown and white with a big curlique M on the side? eeek! i just get excited thinking about it!

ps. i am the featured speaker at sacco's 25th anniversary event tonight! so fun! we are going to drink delicious white white wine and talk all things shoe. yippee!

September 22, 2004

WHATS UP WITH AEROSOLES?

i have had about five different women confess their secret aerosole obession to me this week. these are uber-fashionable, fab women who feel ashamed to admit that aerosoles are kickin' it with the comfy designs this and last season. the item they all had bought in common was the marc jacobs knockoff sandal in gold and in black. seems that you can run a mile and keep on lookin' like a star in these things! my picks for fall: the valley girl in claret or light blue snakeskin (and how about paired with a strong jade fishnet tight just for fun?), or the boogie woogie in pink metallic snakeskin? so i say to you ladies: be proud not secretive about your fabulous finds! sometimes you gotta be comfy to truly feel your hotness!!!

September 21, 2004

CLOWN SHOES AND A PINK POODLE

headed to spencer's party in support of his new film. he was my fabulous producer on fabulous life and we just love him. while at plan b in the east village, a clown made me a pink balloon poodle. then we talked about his giant clown shoes (which apparently are very easy to walk in) and how a man in kentucky hand-makes them. i have pics for you but they will be up later this week.

September 20, 2004

IT IS FALL AND YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS

we all try to fit ourselves into knee high boots. some of us with skinny calves are upset because the boots make us looke like stick legs. some of us with voluptuous calves get annoyed because the boots dont fit around our calves. some of us buy the boots and they fit fine and then they stretch out as we wear them. yes you get the picture. while there are many boots, it is hard to fiind the perfect calf and boot match. a miss meghan idea: go for the lace up boot. always flexible, neat and you can even effect a look of a russian girl deep in the volga steppe. or wherever.

September 16, 2004

A READER WRITES IN

"I just realized that I took pics of all the shoes I bought while touring w/ my friend, Steve . . .

Miss Meghan,

Am I crazy?

!!

E"

no eric, you are perfectly normal. this is what we do here in miss meghan land. we obsess over shoes and we love ourselves all the more for it. we take pictures of our shoes, we display them as art in our homes, we put vintage brooches on them to dress them up (actually that's more for the ladies) but you get my point. shoes = life.

September 14, 2004

MISS MEGHAN DOES FASHION WEEK

my version of fashion week is to view all collections from here as they happen, avoid the tents at all costs and instead go to the cynthia rowley show at the elizabeth street garden on friday (where white sand, morroacan tents, sunsetting lovely indian summer day , drummers and fierce music by nima and laurent, were the order of the day. fruity drinks and celeb sightings like alan cummings, candace bushnell and ballerina hubster, and the sister from the sopranos were fun.) and the meatpacking district with jason (where every editor seemed to be playing hooky from the tents as well--glenda bailey, lydia schmidt from german elle, all the marie claire girls stepping out of a hired car to go shopping at destinations), j and discussed the 50th issue of jcreport, we met up w/roger at rubin chappelle where j tried on womens pants as usual and where they fortunately gave us some fizzy water so we didn't pass out, saw martin at jeffrey --kisses!-- got up to no good in alex mcqueen, and saw lots of fun jackets, sweaters and shoes for miss meg! j and i discussed the hooky phenom. i think fashion shows might have had their heyday. why mess w/nasty prs and mad crowds when you can get it online in real time?

September 10, 2004

I AM WEARING PURPLE SUEDE STILETTOS

and you know what that means. it's fall!

ps. don't forget to tune in tonight to savvy at 10. i give you great tips on how to save your sole.

September 6, 2004

CLIP ON, CLIP OFF

so some of my dear readers have written about where and how to get cute shoe clips. ebay has a very cute collection of vintage clips though i suggest making your own. how? get a cute pair of vintage earrings you love (hunt your local salvation army, thift shops and flea markets) then attach them to a shoe clip with krazy clue. voila! your own custom pair of shoe clips. very cheap and very cute. and you can use them to dress any pair of shoes! eek!

September 4, 2004

STRIPPERS NOT BLOGGERS

just kidding. its the holiday weekend here in nyc and i must say it is ever so pleasant. lots of room on the west wide pier for watching the sunset, all my fave restaurants are empty and all the people who are still here are the sort of people you like to hang with. like jason and k, or the supercreator or lora or my honey.

friday nite went all the wayy to bushwick for the sneaker pimps exhibition. i was scarit but my honey held my hand. anyhoo we got there and ran into peter fahey, teh brainchild behind the whole event, and checked out sneaks by jb, linda zachs and a whole bunch of cool artists and designers. jason bass showed me his cool new ski boots with the kickass lasered designs in the leather--the only skibots ever to be laser etched. david gensler showed us around and lora and jj ran by us sweating out into the cool night air. it was quite a steamroom in there but made for much fun as we watched the spntaneous danceoff that took place in the middle of the floor.

the rest of the weekend was a lot of lazing about, eating yummy homecookin' and checking out the west side side pier. now i am just sitting here thinking about all the teen shoe trends i am going to talk about tomorrow morning on the WB new york. eeek! watch for me, i'l be wearing a fuschia turleneck and some ashley dearbon pointy toe flats with snails on them!!

September 2, 2004

ARE YOU A SAVVY GIRL?

even if you are not a girl technically, i think you are! and i think you'd want to tune in for the next round of miss meghan shoe tips friday september 10th on WE network. 10 pm on fri, then 1 am or 10:30 pm on saturday. dont miss miss meg!!

CALLING ALL EARLY RISERS!

sip your morning coffee and learn about back to school must have shoe fashions from miss meg! tuesday september 7th on the WB morning show. sorry midwest fan club--only in nyc, but you may be able to see clips here.

MARK GRAFF, CEO OF PLAYGIRL TV, COMMENTING ON EARLY VIEWER RESPONSE TO THEIR FILMS

"`Why is she wearing those shoes?' was a big thing. Not why was she wearing shoes or not wearing shoes, but why is she wearing those shoes? Shoes were like — a big deal."

DID YOU SEE THIS?

K-Y : A GIRL'S BEST FRIEND IN SO MANY WAYS

did you know K-Y prevents blisters? yes that's right my sweeties. when that shoe is rubbing your heel a little too hard, put a drop of K-Y on it and cruise through the rest of the day pain-free!

August 25, 2004

TOO MANY THINGS

as the illustrious jason campbell always says. anyhoo i will try to recapture the events in LA as best i can but you know i'll miss something. alison levy, (wife of andy kindler on signifcant others airing in sept) picked me up at the airport at the stroke of midnight. we zoomed back to her sweet little pad in los feliz which was where i made my home until i headed up to santa barbara for jason's wedding on sat.

thursday i got a chance to meet all the fabu peeps who work on savvy. ooh so fun! tina, lisa, david, latrice, joel and even maureen from WE! then i took off to silver lake where randy screened the jose oquando for me in his and amy's new house. a glass of white wine and a freak-out over amy's dining room later (think palm beach meets fierce 1970's chocolate wood dining room table and some orange and blue parrot wallpaper), wendy amy and i headed to harmony for mani/pedi, where we sat in giant black leather chairs with massage rollers. then to gingergrass with leslie for basil ginger lemonade and lots of steamed fish and ginger. friday was all about walking in LA. i headed into los feliz proper and hit my fave thrift store in all of LA, squaresville, where i promptly conjured up theperfect vintage pink silk chiffon fairy dress for me to wear to the wedding ($14. yes YOU HEARD RIGHT. $14.). then to fred 62 my fave diner where i proofed my FINAL PROOFS OF MY BOOK. yes you heard right. the final galleys!!! eeek!! they look so fab and chronicle is even giving me a pink metallic cover! can you imagine?

fri afternoon i hung on the stoop and then les and went back to harmony for her pedi and my mani. then off to tantra where jess landaw and leslie and speed and i devoured the largest lamb chops i have ever seen and lots of fruity drinks. speed also recited the poem about little hands and i cried. i love it when speed recites poems. jess and i did a quick stop into the 4100 club and checked out the car with the computer keyboard keys near where we parked. i learned one important thing about LA. NEVER EVER give up a parking space to look for another one.

sat we headed up with wendy and eric in the lancer to montecito. where we promptly landed at the four seaons pool eating elegant crab cakes served by cute pool boys on trays. the food was on the trays, not the pool boys you dirty minded readers!

sat night we relaxed in the garden at el canto by a lily pond and everyone made nice funny toasts. mark, joe, dave, and jim kept me in giggles at our table and i ate all of joe's apple flan. i also learned los feliz is proncounced LOOS feliz not LAAAS feliz. can i help it if my charming michigan accent is so cute it likes to pop up in my o's?

sunday it was sunny. the entire gang gathered poolside this time and while the boys played aloud game of water frisbee, i basked in the frequent evian spritzers mark our pool boy provided as well as a fruity pino loco in between trips to the whirlpool, saltwater pool with underwate r music, and spa for lemon scented chilled towels. oh yeah i also hit the best hair styling product in the world, the pacific ocean, and played with jnash and hudson.

sunday eve jay and jess got married with the sound of the ocean crashing behind us, we drank lots of cosmos, danced like it was 1984, and watched a red moon dip into the sea at 11 pm. i talked to bary, marta, max and steph and melissa between 5-courses of total foodie decadence and a heath bar cake. then it was time to go home and watch some more scary movie 2 with eric.

monday we were up and adam. except no one was named adam and we also were really hung over. buddha belly dinner with ali and morano made me feel better and i skipped the 9 pm and opted for the 10 pm red-eye. almost in first. next time.

OH MY PEOPLE

i have missed you so much! i just got back from LA and it was too too too much fun. got to catch up w/ all manner of fun people and even got to see an LA landmark which is this car that has been decorated in computer keyboard keys from the 70's. will post pic ASAP. i am going to give you the full 411 very soon but for now i say to you--can you believe payless is closing? and what do you think of the new round-toed phenom? check out my article in this month's zink mag to take the pointy-toe vs round toe girl for further insight. (its the sept issue, which is not yet up on the website. instead hit your nearest newstand or bookstore!)

kisses. miss m.

August 18, 2004

I DON'T LIKE THAT BANNER AD ACROSS THE TOP OF MY BLOG ANY MORE THAN YOU DO

in fact i am going to write in about it right about now. then i am flying to LA. i am going to walk in LA just like the song and maybe even take the metro for fun. kisses.

August 17, 2004

WHAT IS FUNNY

is the way ally sheedy juts her chin and calls matthew broderick an ass for not being able to swim in the movie with very big computers (so big that there is a woman who just walks around one of them and takes notes on what it is doing--i wonder when they casted that were they like we need a computer -watcher woman?) anyway you know the movie-- wargames. much reccomended is a green leather miami vice loveseat to watch it in to get fuly in the mood. and a teenage makeout session.

ps. can we all send rayray some love today? his computer got snatched by that bad mercury in retrograde.

August 14, 2004

THE HAIR

is very very blonde, very short and back to it's fabulous rayya bob-ishness. a little longer in front and shorter and sassier in the back. just how i am.

MISS MEGHAN'S MENSTRUAL HUT

i want to be like the women of that tribe in africa who have a menstrual hut thay can go hide out in. except my hut will be decked out in 600 thread count cotton sheets, have a massuese and acupuncturist on hand, an extremely large tub with jet sprays and giant bottles of kneipp valerian & hops bath soak, a chef, and organic garden out back, on a very long beach for walking, every book i wanted to read but haven't, beautiful vintage nightgowns, a jar of 800 miligram motrins, and a large closet full of chocolate.

August 10, 2004

CONTRARY TO POPULAR BELIEF

krazy glue is not a girls best friend. this i found out whence i tried to repair my fave black calvin klein stilettos on the way uptown this afternoon. at first, at first, the krazy glue seemed to hold, then came undone twice. both times before the subway, giving passengers something to look at as i applied more glue and held my shoe and heel together in my hand with a look of decided concentration.

two bits of interesting info: one, when the heel came off there was an inscription "2003" on the shoe where the heel once was. and it's true what joe at sacco said, no one actually makes stacked leather heels anymore, they are all plastic.

August 7, 2004

NO LONGER WILL WE BE HELD HOSTAGE BY THE SICKLY SWEET SUGAR

smells that waft down bleecker and the cupcake bouncer and the lines of jersey tourists on the weekends around the block waiting for their fix at magnolia. because i have heard from a very reliable source that magnolia will be giving up their lease in one year and giving it over to CHANEL. thats right. you heard correctly. my street will now be home to a chanel boutique. in some ways this is kind of scary, in some ways kind of neat. i have visions of much lacquered hair traversing the street. but also a happy feeling that i will get to see all things chanel and make friend with the sales ladies.

IF YOU'RE LIKE ME

the words heart and sole conjure up the memory of patiently pinging away on the piano while your grandpa teaches you the notes to the easiest song for people under 6 to learn. HOW ever there is a new fabulous intrepretation out to the words heart and sole that is sure to put a tingle in your toes. jane eldershaw's heart and sole, the shoes of my life is a shoe MEMOIR. how savvy! how cute! how me. with chapters like the magic of red shoes: the power and the gory and platforms: the musical i do believe i have found someone after my own heart. she even talks about toe cleavage. yesssss!

ORANGE ROLLER SKATES AND LITERARY TUSSLES

so last night i checked out the boog city small presses event at ACA gallery where a whole bunch of fab presses got together to talk all about who they were and what they did. jordan gave a very funny 411 on the hat, the mag he edits with chris edgar, and i had a nice long chat with brendan lorber from lungfull about the bright day-glo orange roller skates he got and his efficient stopping strategy of crashing into groups of smokers outside office buildings. probably the most exciting thing was the fence vs. a-rest magazine tussle that happened out in the hallway. while i was hoping for a bona fide fightfightfight! i think they worked out the aesthetics question pretty amicably.

SOMEONE ELSE LOVES SHOES

I JUST ATE A FLIP-FLOP

no not a real one, silly. a beautiful little flip fliop cookie made by the cookie artist at once upon a tart here in the wv. pink with a green thing and little blue flowers on it. mmm mmmmm.

checked out ec's art opneing last night at her swank boutique. greg wilson a fellow aussie, displayed his paintings--all manner of wild oil paintings: iris and landscapes and women on settees. this of course was after the fab holly waterfield and i knocked back a few key lime vodka drinks, tore up my bedroom trying on all her new fabulous skirts and my new dusica shoes and watching mama gena bring her vulva puppet on conan o'brien. we just about fell off my bed laughing.

just remember life is not a flip flop but in some circumstances you can eat one.

DON'T EVEN TALK TO ME

just saw dusicadusica's new store at the corner of prince and crosby (everything is 50% off btw if you want to get your hands on a hot deal). it is really quite gorgeous. and got to take a sneak peek at fall/winter/spring as well. the open toe wedge heels made of champagne silk with a chiffon detailing at the heel or the chocolate brown pointy toe wedges with more chiffon at the heel. yep. you will see me in those come spring that is for SURE.

I THINK I MENTIONED THIS BUT MAYBE YOU FORGOT

miss meg on TV:

this wednesday evening, august 4th at 10 pm: VH1: Fabulous Life:Summer Spenders

&

this friday evening, august 6th at 10 pm, Savvy, a new show on WE (Channel 59 in NYC)

THE INVASION OF THE JELLY SHOES

for some reason jelly shoes are de riguer up in cambridge massachusetts. why cambridge, i could't tell you. all i know is that i saw plenty of jelly shoes. lime green, pink, clear, all shaking in their jelly way as their owners walked thru the streets with pride.

why was in cambridge you ask? for the boston poetry massacre of course. jordan read on saturday night, i read sunday noontime. was v.v. fun. james tried to fleece the crowd with stickers jimmy gave him, but i managed to talk him down from three dollars per "terrific job!" to a quarter each. i got mine free of course and got an extra one during my reading, just for fun. thanks, james.

but no trip is complete without a stop at the local secondhand store for a fabulous pair of black strappy sandals -- never worn -- for only 16$! they are very cha-cha-cha. as if i should be dancing a dramatic tango with a black ruffled skirt with a red underthingy. and the red underthingy would be ruffly and would show only when i did a fabulous turn. also a red hibiscus in the hair, don't you think?

then the fungwa home to terror central. ahem. as russell says, "the stock market is a TARGET? noooooo, REALLY?" exactly.

ps. griffin pls stop tearing your wee wee pad up b4 daddy gets home. oh geez. i just remembered griffin can't read.

47%

of women ages 18 to 24 say finding perfect footwear is better than sex. this from self magazine this month. now either women in this country are not having good sex lives, or women really hit their sexual prime when they are 30 or maybe that shoes really are a good alternative. they do last longer and you can wear them around outside and get compliments on them, unlike sex. i am JUST KIDDING of course. in fact i would never purport to come down on one side or the other of this issue. i leave it to you, my dear readers, to debate amongst yourselves.

BOYS HAVE SOLES TOO!

and i hear the footpetals ladies are debuting a brand new line for men at WSA next week called SOLE KINGS. ladies, don't you think your man desrves a little pampering? i do!  i'll let you know when they hit the stores.

MICHAEL DUKAKIS' SHOES

now i know you feel as bad as i do about michael dukakis being so put out by the democratic party. i mean they want nothing to do with the poor man. and while i am hazy on all the details of what he did that was so bad, i do have to make note of the shoes he was wearing yesterday.  really worn-in (or worn out as the case may be) running shoes with his dark navy suit while he was giving walking tours in boston to delegates.  at least he was not wearing flip-flops or mandals. but still i'd like to send him maybe a nice pair of puma trainers or pirellis or to spice it up a bit some jbclassics, don't you think?

July 27, 2004

FABU!

here's all about the show the i'm on for VH1. airing august 4th at 10 pm.  hopefully i didn't say anything offensive about brad and jen or cameron and justin.  eek.

IF YOU ARE AN EARLY RISER

you can catch me on WE's new show "savvy" august 4th at 4:30 am, if you are a more normal mammal, you can catch me on august 6th at 10 pm, august 7th at 1 am and 10:30 pm or sunday at 11:30 am (perfect background brunching noice, non?)  here in nyc WE is channel 59.

lora and i had headed to the hamptons where we saw my promo on WE on the big screen TV. because we are both fun we stayed tuned into to WE all weekend and everytime it came on we woudl turn up the volume, look at each other and scream.  of course this was in-between shopping trips to sag harbor (note to all: bagleys home is a FAB little spot to get exquisite little home & lifestyle knickknacks--inlcuding black sea curative pink sea salts in cute packaging), lunching on the veranda of aemrican hotel, hitting the farm stands, midnight skinny dips, lots of grey goose and peach juice on the rocks, good eatin' and magazine catchups (vogue, elle, lucky, HC&G and of course every hamptons real estate catalog i can get my hands on.) it was, what i would characterize, as an excellent girls weekend.

one small neurosis: i am a little afraid that i come off as totally and comeplety obsessed with shoes in my segment. which i am.  but i am also passionate about many other things too. rayray aren't i a well-rounded person? pls write in to tell me yes. (and maybe give me an example so i can remember) thank you.

JE VOUDRAIS UNE TECHNO-PANT, SI'L VOUS PLAIT

what i learned at jazz night in fort greene: that shanna named the old navy techno pant and sean was party guy#3 in dazed and confused.  pls note the shoe incident that happened to sean while shooting: he was asked to remove his custom eagle embroidered cowboy boots and replace them with 1970's keds because he was towering over the other actors.  a prime example of the influence shoes have on most everything, including feature films. i also learned that the 16 layer fudge cake in martha stewart living cookbook may be an excellent recipe choice for me when i am having an obsessional moment, that the greene grape has lots of good roses for summer, and that sitting out on the stoop in the neighborhood with your honey and other fun people is infinitely one of the most lovely summer evenings you can think of.

WHAT GRANDMA THINKS OF THE SNEAKERS

"Yo, my darlin'? I like the pink sneakers (01) and the 03 sneakers. Some of the rest I just wouldn't care for. Love and summer hugs from Grandma P"

SNEAKING AROUND

found some new sneakers that are quite wild.  what do you guys think?

BLAHHHHHHHHHH!

just thought i'd say that.

49 GROVE

the small door on grove that used to give entree to one of nyc's hottest clubs (halo) is again on the rise.  i got a sneak preview and personal tour with arram, the new owner, last night and there is no doubt that come this fall, 49 grove has the potential to be a harder door than bungalow 8.  rock star meets ralph lauren is the new agenda there: lots of onyx, glittering black lacquer, cozy fireplaces, gray flannel sconces, and waiters in pinstripes is on the docket for the interior decorators.  the "den" is a private room past the VIP section that completely closes off with it's own bar for the ultimate in secret canoodling. fueled by celeb events already booked by lizzie grubman & co, i think it could be a new downtown playground and give hue's beds a run for their money!

as it was berkos bday, and the demolishers were set to start knocking down walls today, we had full run of the place, and were instructed to finish everything in the bar.  not entirely possible but we made a dent.  i left at two when the crew from the hot new resturant on bleecker, august,  arrived and started mixing up the deadly cranberry-vodka shots.  but before i did i managed to get a few little sneak tidbits on the olympics in athens from an insider on the tennis committee (no the greeks havent finished building it all yet, and that perhaps the reason the williams sisters have declined to play may be more based on the fact that mandatory blood testing is required for the first time this year rather than terrorism: but you didn't hear that here.)  at her behest, i tried on the fabulous red sergio rossi do-me pumps of the scintillating diana su and talked diamante and constanzo banca with alicia, the juicy fashion exec.  i also talked to K about his latest romance, to big mama about being a sous chef and tom about st tropez.

i think miss meg wants to have a little book signing or two there.  wouldn't that be fun? oh goody.  i don't know what i'll wear to be rock star ralph but i am sure i can scare up something, non? i am feeling black uber-dramatique satin with red lips. and some killer strappy stilettos.mmmmm.

THE REPLICA MOVEMENT

what i am seeing for this fall in shoes in what i am calling the replica movement.  shoe designers are not just taking design details or references to shoes that have been done before, but rather are replicating them exactly, albeit with new, sturdier materials and improvements on comfort level.  it all started when judi rosen of the good the bad and the ugly on east 9th street found the manufacturer of her favorite 70's vintage shoes and went into partnership with him adding more cushioning in the sole and some updated materials and then selling the shoes in her funky boutique.  this kicked off a trend in the disco dancing shoe which manifested at places like betsy johnson.  we also saw marc jacobs ripping off vintage designs in a very literal way the last two seasons, tho he always managed to add a little sumpin', sumpin' to his designs (even tho his production quality does not exactly beget his wild price points. ahem. do ya think sofia c, as his muse, might want to point that out to him sometime maybe?) now designers are doing replica to all era of shoe.  more on this my children, very soon.

meanwhile CERTAIN PEOPLE have been calling me asking if other CERTAIN PEOPLE are being distracted by yours truly.  now, dear readers, if you know me, you know that i am not in the least bit distracting.  charming, flirtatious and fun yes, but i would never ever distract. oh no, not me.

July 19, 2004

DID I MENTION I LOVE SHOES?

oh yes i think i did.  had a FAb talk with some of favorite shoemakers in the city today, the three amigos at sacco.  did you know sacco comfort shoes have a renewing memory foam in each pair? and leather soles injected with rubber? put that together with some kid leather linings for breathability, and customized toe boxes that don't cut off circulation in your pointy-toed kitten heels and we are talking about the perfect blend of comfort and stylishness.  wow!

and for those of you who were wondering, i wore my fuschia and green lily pulitzer  dress to the shoot on friday. over my "gwyneth" blue cult jeans and with my donna karan pink metallic woven strappy sandals.  courtney my fave makeup artist decked me out in some summer fabulous blue sparkly eyeshadow from nars and a little bronzer for that summer glow!

ps. did you hear that dusicadusica closed the deal on their new store/showroom on the corner of prince and crosby? they are going to open this fall into the hugely expanded space where you'll see all their fab designs for fal including the waterproof cashmere boots!  eek!

July 16, 2004

THE FABULOUS LIFE

is what i will be commenting on later today. those cute folks over at Sharp have invited me back to weigh in on the summer habits of celebs.  too much fun!!

meanwhile check out this cute site, espc her blog which is chock-full of super hot style tidbits. i live for the scouring job she does on every sale, sample sale and hot place to get every and all must-have items.  i am feeling i want a she finds right about now as i am scouring my wardrobe for something fun to wear on-air today.  cute pink tee w/lace/ribbon embellishments or michael stars hot pink tank with purple lacy bra underneath for color? what say you people?

(And remember: 20% off at Footpetals just for being a friend of Miss Meg!)

Ce Ce's most expensive shoe investment: Jil Sander Boots

CeCe's Favorite Shoes: Tsumori Chisato black crackle leather ankle boots

CeCe's Michael Kors Silver Wedgies she'd like to be buried in

THE CECE CHIN INTERVIEW

Miss Meghan caught up with CeCe Chin, the hot new shoe designer who is giving the words cute and comfortable a run for their money. The girl who sits up in her attic bedroom plastered with rock posters, listening to her fave new album, chewing a little gum, and wearing Zinc Pink lipstick is Ce Ce’s muse. She’s girly and sexy and a little bit of rocker, just what Ce Ce’s Vans-inspired hand-painted canvas creations will bring out in you. Sold at Steven Allan, Spooly D’s and Stackhouse in Manhattan, AB Fits in San Fran and Jennifer Kaufman in LA, you might want to get yourself in a pair b4 the summer’s out!

What are your favorite pair of shoes? Where did you get them?
Japanese designer Tsumori Chisato black crackle leather Ankle boots that unzip and fold down- giving me two choices of looks!

Give me three adjectives that describe how you feel in these shoes.
Ass Kicking Rock and Roll Sexy

What pair of shoes did you wear on your last date?
I went for a bike ride with a cutie last night and I wore the Anna shoe from my line, a pointed canvas vulcanized sneaker with pink airbrush painting. Super sporty sexy comfy cool.

What pair of shoes would you want to be buried in?
My Silver leather Michael Kors princess wedge sandals. They are almost 4" high and I can't walk in them! But I can't part with them, they're too beautiful. So maybe I'll wear them then.

How many pairs of shoes in your closet?
At least 100. I wish there were less. I can't throw any of them away. Each pair seems to have a memory attached (I bought these when I was in love with so and so, I was wearing these when I got my first order, etc).

What type of shoes do you like to see on the opposite sex?
Nike High Tops, Adidas or Puma sneakers. No sandals, no leather woven shoes!

What shoe designer do you most identify with?
Tsumori Chisato, the Japanese designer I mentioned before. She's really a ready to wear designer, kinda like the Marc Jacobs of Japan. Usually she only makes a few styles, but they are always fun, fun, fun.

Are you a pointy toe girl or round toe girl?
Pointy!

Stiletto or flat?
Flat or mid heel. I have a few pairs of stilletos but I can only wear them for a little while. I live in my Annas!

What's the most you ever paid for a pair of shoes?
$650 for a gorgeous and timeless pair of Jil Sander high heel ankle boots. Totally worthy the investment.

Do you remember your first pair of shoes?
White patent Mary Janes with scalloped edges. I wore them with red tights.

AND NOW BACK TO OUR REGULAR PROGRAMMING

yes, miss meg had to just have a rant yesterday, but she's back now to talking shoes and all things fashionally incidental. in fact, i have a few thoughts i've been holding in my head this summer re: shoes and other fashion moments:

1. please with the kitten heel flip flop. it had it's minute.

2. uptown the look is jeans with rolled up cuff, tank or tee, and chinese slippers (the kind with the netting and flowers) or flip flops. downtown it's much the same, but the jeans are YSL, citizens for humanity or seven, the tee is a $60 C&C and the flip flops are havaianas.

3. still seeking perfect urban shoe for summer runnings around the city. the boy's version is the pirelli canvas shoe . the girls version just doesn't have enough dressiness for this urban lady however. hm. won't dusica dusica launch her urban ny line now? that would be so fab.

THESE ARE THE INSTRUCTIONS

for the "glow in the dark fancy glitter hair tattoos" that stefany gave me last night at my fab abundance party:

1. remove protective sheet
2. press firmly on your hair, tacky side down
3. wet back thouroughly with water until tattos appears
4. carefully peel back paper
5. tattoo is now ready
6. fix it with hair spray lacquer (different from just hair spray?hm.)
7. to remove it, brush on the hair and then wash with shampoo

i feel like these could be applicable instructions for many life events, non? minus the use of hair spray lacquer every time of course.

JIMMY CHOO NOW ON SALE

if you live in new york you know that this is the time of year when you get a ton of little postcards in the mail that just say "sale" and you rush to your favorite shops (jimmy choo, barneys co-op, and jeffrey) saying your affirmations (the green shoes and i are one) the whole way hoping that the fab pair of shoes that were 100 million dollars in march are now half-off. wheeeee!

GRIFFIN ALWAYS WANTS TO GO VISIT THE MAYOR

everytime we walk through city hall park, griffin tugs and tugs to go inside the gates up to visit the mayor. griffin i say, the mayor is too busy today, maybe tomorrow. then we go to the tribeca dog run which has a pool that griffin can't get into because it has steps. oh well. we have fun anyway.

WHAT A WEEKEND!

after a mani=pedi at my FAVE spa, it all started with the supercreator coming over friday night to transform my zen west village nest into a set a shoe obssessive like myself would be proud of! lets just say 100 shoe boxes, pink peonies, a ladder full of shoe later, i had what looked to be a nice little shoe nest, cozy and chic.

the next morning, the entire production crew arrived and further transformed my little living room into a living breathing set: lights, gels over the windows and NO AIR conditioning (because it's too loud). lets just say miss meg was sweating it a number of ways. but i nailed my last line: REMEMBER THESE SHOES ARE MADE FOR WALKING.

then i dived into the giant box of magnolia cupcakes joel bought and put on some kanye and proceeded to crash heaviliy!

i had so much love and support from my mom, kadidja, supercreator, the robot, elena, the whole crew from autonomy: jessie, david, joel and their great DP and sound man, thank youuuuu sweet people for making my day so fun! pics soon! and we AIR AUGUST 6 on WE network!!! whoeeeee!

sunday elena and i sprayed ourselves silly with rosewater spray and i made a new small friend who i juiced oranges with. then i braved the pride parade to get back to my apartment. i support the cause i just do not support the million people eating falafel and spilling ketchup and mustard packets on my stoop.

MISUNDERSTOOD?

even though that is the name of the show, it could also be the name of oxygen's TV schedule posted on their website. ahem. well, the closest thing i could find was this. which tells that there is a show about celebrities women love to hate. so guess what fine friends and fans? miss meghan was on this show which had it's premiere last night! so exciting! sharp entertainment hosted a little 'do in the back room at viscaya which was ever so fun! i got to meet lola who is also in the show and matt who runs sharp and see cute spencer who took this pic of me on his phone. so if you have oxygen, check it out! misunderstood:eminem is the official name of the show!

RAYRAY HAS JOINED THE MODERN WORLD

it's true. the man who often likens his existence to a monk's has a CELLPHONE. and no i am NOT going to give you the number my
sweeties, i just had to announce that rayray is now open 24/7.

griffin is right now watching national geographic show on working dogs. i am trying to give him some ideas. maybe he can be my assistant? picking up shoes from shoe service, getting shoe designers on the line, etc. whaddya think grif? he's just looking at me.

hey! WE is shooting at my APT this weekend! isn't that fun? we are going to have magnolia cupcakes and a crew of 12 in my very petite living room. send me love my people. i want to rock out my segments--shoe accessories and shoe comfort (but in a chic way). oh goody! going to be so fun!

ps. have many fun pics from nff. some of jim carey who is like completly evolved. if you dont know the million dollar story, look it up on google.

I AM WEARING A TRUCKER HAT

ok. do not freak out. i know that trucker hats are over. HOWEVER i just couldn't resist conjuring the one off of harlo's head. why you ask? because it is for the fab short film, 4-Cylinder 400. saw it yesterday along with a whole bunch of great shorts at the american legion hall. i took pics of both the directors and their shoes which i will post next when i am home.

June 17, 2004

GO SEE GARDEN STATE

new film by writer, director, actor zach branff. really touching. you will laugh cry and well, cry again if you are like me and needing a good cry. why are movies so good for crying?

THE GAUNTLET HAS BEEN LAID DOWN

the challenge has been spoken by miss holly waterfield, fabulous development director here at nff. she has claimed that i will not be able to leave the island without acquiring the green strappy sandals at gypsy. they are kelly green my people. they are beyond. they have a little sort of wrap thing on the front in the kelly green leather. they are divine. pray for me.

IT'S NOT OVER UNTIL EVERYONE GETS OUT OF THE WATER

is what the very wise park man said on saturday afternoon as I and about 50 other people (including anh dueong and amy brenneman)watched 159 brave souls plunge into the hudson river from one of the west docks that is now a park. they were swimming for leukemia--not to get it, which i feared they might swimming in that water--but to raise money for it. we waited until the coast guard gave the signal that the current was friendly, then everyone jumped in, two by two, then the starting gun went off and it was strangely beautiful to see 159 swimmers in bright red caps all start off for the same goal. everyone cheered. i got teary.

June 12, 2004

A COUNT BASIE SATURDAY

at least thats what jonathan schwartz said this afternoon. naming it so because it is near a perfect day here in new york city. blue sky, no humidity and a perfect 72 degrees or such. then he played some count basie and then some sinatra on saturday. o happy day!

I AM A COMMENTATOR

i am not an expert. i do not know everything there is to know about every shoe on the face of the planet (although i do know a lot)-- and i am open to learning. the reason i commentate is because i love shoes. i have always loved shoes. i loved them when i was 5 and begged my mom for a pair of rope wedge baby blue sandals with flowered embroidery (which i still have a picture of). i loved them when i was 13 and gazed at my new brown oxfords with a very thin sole and excellent clackety-clacking heel during english when i was supposed to be diagramming sentences. i loved shoes when i was 28 and bought a pair of sparkly red dries van noten slingbacks that i used as a table centerpiece for six months before i wore them. and i love shoes now as i finish my shoe book and scout locations for my segment on WE's Savvy show as the shoe girl. i am passionate about shoes like i am passionate about many things in my life. i think talking about shoes is fun because everyone has an opinion on them. i think talking about shoes is fun because people reveal a lot about themselves when they talk about their shoes. i think talking about shoes is fun because they are unlike any accessory--they get you where you are going and at the same time state your personality to the world. now what other accessory can do that? let's face it, shoes are special!

ahem. i just thought i'd clear that up in case you were wondering.

June 10, 2004

BECAUSE OF REAGAN DAY

my fabulous 10-inch brimmed straw la dolce vita sunhat cannot be made in time for nantucket film festival. i just don't understand it. the national holiday thingie. not my hat. my hat i understand. my hat represents all that is good about lounging on the beach. it will represent style, chic-ness, and early '60's gamine coquettishness. lots of winking from under the hat. another fruity drink please. (my finger will wave very subtly and coyly and another one will appear at my cabana.)

oh yes! did i tell you i was going to nantucket for the film festival? am SO excited. giving a talk at a fabulous boutique up there called BLU and will be documenting all the stars shoe choices as well. and now that i know how to post pictures. well. it could be a very wild blog you are looking at week after next!

June 9, 2004

WONDERFUL LITTLE ASS

if you search on the terms "wonderful ass" or "little ass" you will get my blog. not number one in the search results, but still there. i have to say, i am very flattered. and so is my virutal model i just created on lands end. she is kind of a babe, with a platinum blonde bob. and a wonderful ass.

TOO MANY THINGS

i am practically PEEEING at my desk right now.

I'VE MISSED THE RABBIT

and now that she is posting again i am ever so happy. i am going to let her reagan memorial post serve as mine also just for fun. hey andrea, will you tell heather i have a big bloggie crush on her? thanks, miss meg

TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT

mary and i officially hand over the reins of the reading series to adam and thomas. magnolia cupcakes, scotch and plenty of verse from mary and me, albert zayden, john schertzer and kathleen krause, shanna compton, jordan davis, mark bibbins, amy holman and jon thirkield. if you live in nyc, get yo ass down there tonight. 8 pm, 11th street bar, btw aves a&b on the south side.

BECAUSE VEUVE IS BOUGHT BY THE CASE

at uncle john's house, the other fabulous memory i have of that weekend was taking a shower in the huge outdoor shower next to the guest cottage, sipping my champagne under sunny skies and relaxing in a big white fluffy bathrobe, glass in hand, hair wet. that weekend, i think if you had tapped my veins you might find more champagne than anything else running through them!

it was my favorite summer month in the hamptons--september--when the fruit and veggie stands aren't crowded, the water is warm and the sunflowers are bountiful. mmmmmmmm, summer.

June 5, 2004

IT WAS ONLY A YEAR AND A HALF AGO

when kristen was 8 1/2 months with baby jack that we sipped champagne at uncle john's sorbet house in the hamptons for the baby shower. sigh. and now stephen gambrel's house in sag harbor (the very one we shared a quick bite of fried chicken in before we hit the road) is in elle decor this month. those dreamy blues. ooooh. he knows how to pick paint, how to put a room at ease. and the plunge pool and cukor-inspired pool house. it's on my desire list. stephen--you're a master it's true!

June 4, 2004

SHPILKES

is what i had last saturday afternoon. it means in yiddish, ants in the pants. this was among the many yiddishisms sam and joshie taught me last night. two other ones also. one that meant chutzpah but more than chutzpah (which i can't remember what it was) and then we discussed the merits of mishegoss which is my all-time favorite yiddishism. brought to me in stereo by my rabbi sarah lukashok. it is really a wonderful catch-all for many things that i find go on in my life and in this city.

but that is not the POINT of last night. the POINT was that wendy had yet another fabulous party to celebrate her phenom success with so many fun peeps at city bakery where chocolate chip cookes, homemade marshmallows and coconut blueberry tarts were simply SET OUT on BIG TRAYS. i am very, very surprised no one did a face dive into any of these massive sugar displays. anyhoo, so many nice peeps: john and roomate catie rosemurgy, katty, allison castillo (of sweet paprika fame), the above mentioned sam saturn, karen kline and her fiance, sarah the shoe whore, randy eismann (with whom i share fond michigan accent memories), and wendy herself looking stunning in a fab black and red dress w/red sweet cardigan ensemble.

POOP IS MY FRIEND

i am only saying this because griffin has presented me with much poop in the last two days. i am sure it is a sign of his undying affection, and so poop will have to be my friend until this puppy develops a new way to show his love. i'd go for kisses, hugs and jewelry as alternatives.

SIPPING LATE AFTERNOON G&T'S

at elizabeth charles while elena tried one fabulous dresses (and came away with two lovely pieces---one, a gunmetal grey silk jersey affair and one a champagne silk two-piece)i was taking in the shoe designs of aussie terry biviano. particulary fetching? her spring green satin thong ankle bootie (ooooh sounds so sexy even just saying it!) and her cutout pump. a pointy-toed pump with tearddrops and scallops cut out along the sides and filled in with clear plastic. in one shot it looked as if there were glitter on the models foot and it got me to thinking--what about foot glitter as the newest shoe accoutrement? for women only pls. in sandals. don't you think?

oh my gosh! and how could i forget? her pink satin stiletto, knee-high boots with three layers of ostrich feathers in fuschia, pink and white. eeek!

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN

wanting to do something and having to do something.

for example: wanting to ride subway one enjoys the schizophrenic man who is channeling mariah carey and sade and the dreadlocked rasta boy who curls up next to you and falls asleep. having to ride subway: one looks at the your fellow drones who are all going into jobs they don't love and guessing who got the most sleep by size of bags under eyes.

ok. so. if you know the difference, why can't you make having to experiences into wanting to? can you conjure desire for things you are not turned on to do? hm. an approriate question to raise over our relaxing holiday weekend, dont you think?

WHILE CHEESE IS GOOD

van's no-wheat waffles are even better.

i feel very holiday today. therefore, my post is tres short.

GRANDMA PLEASE DON'T GET UPSET: THIS POST IS ABOUT SEX

i couldn't help it. i found this interview fascinating.

GRANDMA'S UPDATE

"On my way home from Mass this morning I was listening to WJR and Paul Harvey came on. He said pink is the color this Spring. He said it is the color for men. Pink shirts, pink ties, pink suits and he also said that in Wawatosa, Wisconsin some men are squeezing into women's pink shoes. How about that?"

note to all men i know: pls do not pick up this new trend of wearing women's pink shoes for spring.

THE SORT OF THING THAT GIVES ME PANIC ATTACKS

May 21, 2004

SPEAKIGN OF OBSESSIONS

i am currently obsessed with brownstones in the west village. going to look at 97 barrow street on sunday. oooh goody.

May 20, 2004

THESE PEOPLE

as russell would say, those people, are obsessed with sneakers. in a good way. in fact i rather like people who are obsessed, passionate, you might say about something. pam is obsessed with pre-fab, holly with vintage tablecloths, rayray with comics, lora is obsessed with packaging. and this makes them all very interesting people.

now the only reason i am even remotely beginning to LOOK at sneakers is because of my new quest for the perfect shoe which i think will be a blend of the very best in a sneaker and the very best in a manolo. WHO is up to the task of inventing such a scintillating combination?

THEY SAY

tomorrow is my lucky day.

May 18, 2004

DID YOU HEAR

about those crazy new addidas sneaks called the addidas 1? they have a petite microchip (is that redundant?) in the arch to figure out how much cushioning to give your little feet. isn't that ingenious? blacktop, grass, running trail--it just KNOWS. now if we could make a manolo like that!

I LOVE EMAIL

no, i hate email.

no, i love it.

no, i hate it.

ok: love it when i haven't been on it for awhile and all these fun notes pop in my in box and i hear from people i havent talked to in like 10 years.

hate it: when all i do is answer it and answer it all day and then look up at the end of the day, drained and realize i have not gotten anything done but email. which is not an achievement but can disguise itself as such very easily for the amount of time energy and creative output it sucks out of you.

whew!

there. isn't that clear and totally non-conflicted.

BECAUSE I AM SENTIMENTAL ABOUT POST COLLEGE DAYS IN A2

i bring you a memory from those days straight from the genius songwriting mind of peter macmillan, fellow coffee-slinger and also known as cavah petvah:

"Remember that footage of Elvis Presley executing -
rather poorly - karate kicks between songs? This was
fat, white jumpsuit with sequins, mutton chops to
China, just about to sit on a toilet Elvis. We were
watching it at your cool house on Catherine Street -
was it above a dental office? You jumped up and
yelled "HIYA!!!", and I remarked, "He's not really
flexible." (His leg made about a 50 degree angle from
his torso.)"

I AM LOOKING

for the perfect pair of city running around shoes. requirements: comfy, strong with arch and heel support, chic, go with everything, breathable for summer jaunts up and down west side highway park and long wlaks on hamptons beaches. need also chic sun hat but that is another story. so, ladies and gentleman, won't you join me on my search? i will be researching and posting results here.

LAUREN HUTTON HAS FABULOUS BREASTS

the only reason i know this is because she was sitting in plain view for all to see at noho star on sunday for brunch. now her breasts were not exposed mind you, but the outlines were extremely visible in her loose fitting blue t-shirt. they sort of pointed out. anyhoo, she is very beautiful and was wearing some very interesting reebok shoes that sort of looked like the puma walking shoes everyone loves. except they were reebok and wierdly multi-colored. hm. what does this say about her? i wonder. oh yeah, i'm supposed to be able to answer that question.

PRE FAB IS SO FAB

this is what i learned yesterday after a large pear sorbet and go-around in the west village with the fabulous holly waterfield. we hit irma and intermix and discussed the merits of bleecker, hudson, and why if we could, woudl never leave our small corner of the west village for a second, unless we were going on holiday. she also opened my eyes to the wonder of hudson street--only a block away! but ANY hoo, after chilling with some white wine in holly's nanucket apartment, pam turned us on to the idea of prefab. all you do is buy a piece of land, throw down a septic tank, then go online and order a house! click click. and these builder men show up to build it! and it is very chic and cheap! how about that? maybe the seinfelds would let me buy a tiny corner of their hampton estate and plop right down on it! whaddya think? ikea living on the beach!

ps. holly is making me a skirt! eeek! i'm so excited!

THIS CRACKS ME UP

SOMETHING I LIKE

RAY RAY

even though you have won the national poetry award this does not mean you know everything. for example, i bet you don't know what EDA is? hm? have i finally stumped you?

PEOPLE WERE POURING WATER ON THEIR HEADS

among other things to try and COOL DOWN from the 100 plus degree temperatures inside joes pub last night. a very dedicated and very sweaty crowd of about 90 lloyd cole fans (and fan supporters) each lost an average of ten pounds in water during an amazing acoustic show in which lloyd swigged red bull in a good natured attempt to deal with the sweat dripping off his arms. WHy you may ask would a dark, closed, music venue have no air on an 86 degree day in manhattan? WHY you may ask didn't they try to make it fun and give out free mango drinks or lemonade? WHY you may ask didn't they head down the street to KMART to get even ONE FAN? this will remain one of the great mysteries of life. fortunately the music was stellar and saw us thru. doesn't it always? (see jane jacob profile in this week's new yorker on cities&song)

RISOTTO AND CHOCOLATE FONDUE

that was the nutritious meal mary and i enjoyed before we headed into one of our final three readings at the series (not that we are counting, oh no). we were so hopped up on chocolate after just spooning the fondue straight into our mouths and forgoing the requisite chocolate bananas and ladyfingers, we had a great old time, tho i was personally a little antsy. jon thirkield so rocked it out. WOW. his poems, instead of being damaged by iowa (which can happen, you know) have instead been strengthened and made beautiful, taught and fine.

NEW BLOGGER

jordan was right. this new version kinda freaks me out. note to blogger staff: it is hard for technophobe people like myself to adjust to changes in navigation. why change naviagtion from right to left? the reason technophobes like me USE blogger is so we don't have to think. or maybe it's because i am a scorpio and since i am a fixed sign i don't like change. either way, pls. no more changes.

A WOMAN'S PLACE IS IN HER UNION

this was the banner the women's carpenter's union brought to the house we were building on 134th street on saturday with habitat for humanity. and truth be told, these ladies were pretty fierce. it was awesome to watch them tear into a piece of concrete board with the same swagger i've seen a man do. except of course, with more beauty.

NOTICING

the ennui/despondent parallels between j geils rage in the cage and kanye wests' school spirit . thematically more than lyrically. best line: they dont want me paralyzed, they just want me neutralized.

DOES JESUS GO OUT AT NIGHT?

a line i found in my breadloaf notebook from four years ago.

COMPLIMENTS FROM OFFICE PEOPLE HELP

even brad who normally doesnt notice such things. thanks guys!

I AM NOT A BOY

today i woke up back in my good old feminine self. for some reason this haircut has now morphed the way it's supposed to and instead of making me feel i had to give up all things pink & frilly, i now feel excited for summer with my super short locks.

FUN PEOPLE I HAVE MET IN THE LAST TWO DAYS

1) maral balian: eyebrow specialist and musician extraordinaire. from michigan--of course. the place where many amazing people grow. watch for her on the charts soon my friends.
2)matteo: my trusty driver this morning
3)j. henrique d. campos: lovely brazilian businessman
4)sami: owner of new store in soho selling brazilian clothing. (note to self; must get bikini!)
5)maria carvalho: coordinator for sole commerce
6) dusica's fabulous friend from palm beach: i am SO upset i forgot her name. she was lovely. we talked dogs, kids and palm beach shoe stores.
7) edward: edward scissorhands of note below
8) robert the locksmith: charming, patient and learned
9) sally: woman in veggie restaurant who came up to me while i had my head buried in beginnig with O to tell me she saw olga read from that book at yale when she won the prize. can you imagine?

WHY DO I ALWAYS GET WEEPY?

at the full moon? i'd venture to say it has to do with ovulation.

things weeped at today:

1) sandi sassack's email to me. ten years in one email!
2) olga broumas poems: artemis, innocence, four beginnings

ok so really only two things. but two things more than usual. & you'll notice i did NOT weep about my hair.

NON-BOYNESS CONFIRMED BY IMPARTIAL OBSERVER

ok well she did have some self-interest in complimenting as she was my waitress at the veggie restaurant i go to withincreasing frequency, and so maybe she had a good tip on her mind. but still. she seemed genuine. i told her my fears and she quickly dissuaded them. whew.

EVEN THOUGH

jordan says i don't look like a boy, i am still feeling a little boyish in this new hair. do you think griffin will recognize his mommy? we'll see. he is coming over tonight for dinner. i mean, i am not actually making dinner for him, i am making dinner for sarah and russell. griffin will have whats in his bowl. organic of course.

DUSICA DOES IT RIGHT

cocktails at dusicadusica last night, the hottest new shoe store to hit manhattan since sigerson. turns out business is so good, they are currently in talks to move to an even bigger location on prince, further west. tho i can't tell you yet where, sweeties until the deal is done.

dusica took me in the back and showed me whats hot for fall. waterproof cashmere (she is the only designer to have smartly snapped it up from the italian factory where it is made) and it shows itself on pumps, kitten heels and fabulous knee high boots with molded rubber heel. when i asked dusica about her inspirations, she said, "it's not that esoteric. i think about what i need in my closet. what i want to carry what i want on my feet and then i make it. " smart strategy methinks. obviously working for her since she is rolling in business. i also got to preview the new totes. ruched leather with a chiffon piece that can be woven into the handle, string across the shoulder or taken off. genius. "women need to feel sexy, powerful and feminine," dusica said, " and that's what i aim to do."

& if i can trust you dear reader with another exclusive tidbit, i'd tell you that next fall dusica will be designing a line just for us new york girls! stylish, comfortable running-around shoes in addition to her already comfort-soled heels and boots. a feminine dusica-ized puma. stay tuned for more details.

I HAVE NO HAIR

in a good way. edward scissorhands (otherwise known as edward tricomi) just chopped my hair into an "edgy" cut for spring. don't worry people. it's ok. i'm ok. i think.

REQUEST FROM HEIDI IN SALMON

it is true. i did not do my usual dilgent reporting on ms. heidi e. ewing's party last saturday night. i can't believe my mind was so erased by that monday it slipped my mind. because really who could forget dancing in the den to "i ran so far away" by flock of seagulls and "dilemma" by nelly & kelly, chocolate covered strawberries, cute geminis, and an abundance of good springtime feelings?

UBER SEXY

on a very different note, the opti-grab crew were extremely sexy and fun at the mercury lounge on saturday night. hilarious lyrics, tracy murphy gettin' racy, and even tho the music was flowing from an imac, the sounds were tres awesome.

ps. waldo says uber is not a good superlative. somehow it sounds better when jason uses it, i guess. sigh.

DID I TELL YOU

how smart griffin is? he went poopy and pee on his weewee pad TWICE yesterday!

GRIFFIN IS THE NAME

of the sweet, gentle, cute, refined little sheltie that decided to chosse russell and i as his parents. now before you all gasp kidlets, know that russell will be the primary owner and sweet griffin will live with him most of the time. holidays and when griffin misses me (or i miss griffin), griffin will take a vacation to the west village.

oh my goodness. it was quite miracluous how he chose us i tell you. just looking out at us with his intelligent little face and long nose. russell immediately named him and i cried. then russell and i took him around all day yesterday and people just stopped us on the street every two seconds because he is SO CUTE. we got a dog-bag, chew toys and lots of organic food. russell says he won't take him to the doggy ice cream social, but that i can.

WE ALWAYS MEET

the most fabulous people at daniel while we are lazing in langoustines and everyone is always curious why liz is leaning into my ear and i am listening with such fervent attention. this is because she is singing me her latest song she just wrote, silly people! she sings, i listen and then we exclaim, because it is always so good! i drink champagne all through dinner and then all of a sudden there are about 100 chocolate-y desserts on our table and then we close the place down. wheee!

LANGOUSTINES AND CHAMPAGNE

always make me feel better about the day's procrastination activities.

PROCRASTINATION

1. listening to j. geils freeze frame over and over while jumping around house
2. pretending to send out poetry submissions (by this i mean moving the sealed envelopes that need postage from one part of the desk to another. and back again.)
3. eating a salmon burger & drinking coffee
4. talking on the phone
5. sending email
6. walking to washington square park & back
7. taking a sudden, overpowering interest in my book shelf. WHERE was that carl phillips book? i need to read it right now!
8. reading gawker
9. emailing agent to say i need the weekend to finish proposal
10. playing with hair
11. eating raspberry sorbet
12. doing nails
13. looking at joan rivers postcard and thinkign how much i want to go see her at fez
14. inviting everyone i know to see optigrab this saturday at mercury. c;mon! it'll be FUN!

ok but rayray at least i am not cleaning house from top to bottom. getting on my hands and knees to scrub the MOLDINGS and scrubbing even the bathroom floor behind the toilet in an obsessive manner. ohhhh nooooo. that was LAST weekends procrastination-fest.
