WOMEN DON'T JUST BUY SHOES

We are perhaps on the first step to a matriarchal society; women will earn more money than men if current trends continue by 2028,” . . .Women, Mr. Silverstein added, are “controlling purchases and driving a shift in our economy.”

travel
“Women are making 70 percent of travel decisions, for the family, for their own getaways or for people at work,” said Niki Leondakis, the chief operating officer of Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants in San Francisco.

electronics
“Women are outspending men in our industry $55 billion to $41 billion,” Ms. Gilbert said. “Not only that, they are actually influencing 90 percent of the purchases. It is a new day in consumer electronics.”

big-ticket household purchases
Women accounted for 33 percent of the purchases at big-box retailers in 2005, up from 28 percent in 2003, according to the NPD Group, a consumer research firm. “That’s a huge shift,” said Mark J. Delaney, an NPD analyst, “not to be taken lightly.”

homes
single women are the fastest-growing segment of home buyers, according to the National Association of Realtors, purchasing 21 percent of homes, compared with just 9 percent for single men.

cars
women buy more than 50 percent of the new cars and trucks sold in the United States. In 2005, based on data from National Automobile Dealers Association, that amounted to about $200 billion spent on about eight million new vehicles.

MISS MEGHAN IN THE DAILY NEWS: THESE BOOTS ARE MADE FOR WALKING

Celebrity boot camp
The skinny on how to pair jeans and boots

They may be just fine for walking, but this season's boots were really made for looking totally chic — if you get the look right.

A New York City woman probably racks up more mileage in her boots than anyone, so keeping things perfectly proportioned is essential. When wearing boots over jeans, the goal is to look sleek and sophisticated, with legs that won't quit.

"The knee-high boot is a classic," says Meghan Cleary of http://www.missmeghan.com/, a shoe expert and author of "The Perfect Fit: What Your Shoes Say About You." "Wear them over skinny jeans that tuck neatly into the boots. You want to create a streamlined look."

No wonder we're always copying her style. Kate Moss was tucking slinky leggings into boots long before anyone else, so it's no wonder she's got the proportions down perfectly.

MISS MEGHAN ON THE RADIO RITAS LIVE THIS FRIDAY MORNING AT 7:30 AM EST

you can listen live from your computer!

THIS IS HOW THEY ROLL IN SAN FRAN

am loooving it here! had a blast with all the ladies who came on down to Bloomie's to catch the Frye Fall boot collection. we had a blast dancing to the amazing DJ and checking out the brand new San Fran Bloomie's shoe floor. It is gorgeous there! An amazing store. The Frye peeps and I had a blast giving away one pair of Frye Campus boots (a fave of Sarah Jessica Parker) every half hour. Omg. So many fun winners.Jennifer June, the cowboy boot expert, came on down as well and we chatted cowboy boot girls and all about her new boot book coming out next year. caroline and her friends got their books signed and a pic with the superfab bloomies models (see above) ben took pics, eleanor and amanda and i helped him select some gift boots, and after Kurt and I did one final dance, it was time to go back to the W my new fave hotel, and have one of their signature smoothies. everyone in san fran drinks smoothies!

the ever-talented tracey took me in for a few days, where we had a fab dinner party for sarah, i hiked on the beach, did a swim at equinox, met the amazing piperlime ladies, and to top it all off, saw lucinda live at the fillmore. she is one rockin rocker. if i wasn't before i am now her biggest fan. she truly has an amazing voice. she sang some of her new tunes, including "c'mon" which had tracey and i in giggles of recognition.

look! laura and suzanne took a relaxed pic of me. one of few that exist! (see upper right photo on this post).

also discovered this new store--called neda--hello--they carry giuseppe AND terry de havilland!!! omg. a miss meghan dream come true! xo

MISS MEGHAN GIVES THE "MOST AMUSING" SHOE AWARD AT SHOES ON SALE LAST NIGHT

Before we went into this amazing event (1200 people at the Waldorf for sit-down dinner!) Big shout out to Robin and Nicole and the whole team who organized this major event and QVC and FFANY for raising so much money year after year for Breast Cancer treatment and research. I chatted with the nice WireImage man about his shoes (he needed just a bit of polish) in the picture to the left.

Even in my fierce Giuseppe Zanotti four-inch plum patent suede satin bejeweled peep-toe pumps (see first pic above) i was terrified to walk that press line. there were about 500 photographers and truthfully when i saw it, i just wanted to hide behind bebe and slink in quietly! jade helped me, and i ended up having fun with pam from bagtrends, the wireimage videographer, and few other fun people, then we ducked into the event to have a seat and a drink before dinner.

june ambrose looked gorgeous in her bottega gown and giuseppe stiletto sandals--i so admire her elegance and self-possession (see pic above). bebe wore some amaaazing peter fox velvet mules (see pic above) and cracked us all up with her commentary. we chilled for a few then hit the dining room for a fab awards ceremony -- christian louboutin! michael atmore! bebe! fran drescher! carson kressley! nina garcia! -- and a delicious dinner which i got to barely eat because then we whipped into the back to judge the shoe contest.

Fran Drescher, Carson Kressely, Bebe Neuwirth and Michael Atmore and I--were in charge of judging the Most Elegant, Most Sexy and Most Amusing shoes of the eve. We had a blast bantering about who was the mostest and quickly came together with who won what.

Stephen Schwartz was a unanimous winner for Most Amusing, which I got to present. He wore customised Cole Haan black patent slippers with a pink bow and pink diamante. As the publisher of Footwear Plus, he made some lovely comments about how much Shoes on Sale helps people with cancer, a topic close to his heart. And ours. Hi Grandma!

Then Mya came out and sang four songs--she is amazing. i think she was wearing four inch stilettos too and she was dancing up a storm quite effortlessly. i want to learn to do that!

By the end of the night, I was reclining in a big puffy chair in the coat check area, and falling asleep in the car on the way home. a delicious night of shoe i must say.

Image above from Wireimage.com :Miss Meghan/ Shoe Therapist- She wears Richard Tyler Couture, and Giuseppe Zanotti shoes. She talks about being a shoe judge along with Bebe Neuwirth and Carson Kressley. She talks about the producer's boots and what they say about him. BOVINES, BALLET FLATS AND BABES

what whirlwind weekend. first shoe therapy with the fabulous justine! we had a blast and i even took her wayyy outside her comfort zone with some sparkly ballet flats that were encrusted with super intense rose-gold glitter. she opted for two very cute pairs of sleek pointy toe flats in an incredible leather. we hit the bergdorf, sergio, ferragamo and even macy's (gasp!) in our quest and i must say there is a massive GAP in the marketplace for sexy, unusual flat boots (although I do love these.) so i am on the hunt!

next stop of the weekend was bovina for the increasingly more famous every year, livestock festival. roscoe rocked -- and marylee did one of her amazing bob dylan covers, bands played till 4 am, even tho i fell asleep deep into a brownie and whiskey coma around midnight! the babes of bovina (me, holly, amber, julie, mystelle and jas) posed for pics on the stoop of john's amazing house the next morning (pic to come).

whew.

then shopping in downtown andes where i snagged an amazing vintage bedspread and tasted the delectable niblets from the slow down cafe. slow down is not a jokey, funny ha-ha name, nope, it is reality as time slows down to a standstill when you enter the slow down zone. it is similar to the twilight zone only because you think that if you wanted to be thats low, you might not open a resturant, but instead some other kind of business like, say a sleeping clinic.

SEE WHAT MISS MEGHAN HAS TO SAY ABOUT WHAT YOUR SHOES ARE SAYING TO YOUR MAN!

from Three2Seven.com:

The Shoe Guru

Meghan Cleary tells us what she thinks about our best date shoes. Is this the message you want to send out?

Black pointy sling backs with a covered toe - medium heel. Very Audrey Hepburn.
M: Classic old-school glamour - she is saying to her man, "I expect to be treated like a lady"

My sparkly Miu Miu "disco shoes". They're black and silver, with a four-inch heel and make me smile every time I look down.
M: She is communicating, her sense of fun, humor and that she doesn't take life too seriously but at the same time enjoys dressing up and being girly.

OH DEER!

The whimsical little sister company of Deer Stag, known for their sturdy outdoor boots and sandals, embraces the fun and glamour of playing dress up with their golden age Hollywood starlet-inspired line of platforms, stilettos, and peep-toes. At their reasonable price point ($110-$200), you can channel your inner movie star in styles you see right now on the red carpet without the red carpet price tag.

OUTTAKES FROM LAST WEEK'S DAILY NEWS PHOTO SHOOT

the brilliant tanya braganti has a way with photos, don't you agree?

ps. while we were shooting this in front of holly's store, camp on perry street, lou reed walked by and became entranced by either me or the many platforms we had lying around. tanya was like, um, do you know him? because he was totally eagle-eyeing the entire little set up we had going. maybe he likes platforms?
