HILARY SWANK, CAFE CLUNY AND SHELLY STEFFEE'S PANTS

what a morning miss meghan had here in her own little 'hood. first, a workout with dave, my fab trainer who makes me lift 35 pound weights. what? then breakfast at the new hotspot cafe cluny (who knew they were doing breakfast? organic eggs and multigrain toast and one of the best cappucinos i've had in awhile.) hilary swank popped in for breakfast while i was reading my horoscope in the daily news. not a stitch of makeup and she is totally gorg. then i hit shelly steffee where mimi and i rocked out to new order and i told her stories about bobby dinges the star basketball player at u of d high who played me blue monday for the first time in his basement in rosedale park and how i taped bizarre love triangle off the radio on a CASSETTE tape people, the first time it was ever played on detroit radio. such nostalgia. ok so shelly makes these PANTS. they are magic pants and i almost do NOT want to tell you about them because they are so MAJOR that once i talk about it then every other woman knows and once they try them on they will buy them. they are GENIUS. black wool full leg cut trousers with a waistband that is super soft jersey, kinda like preggy pants but way more super chic. brilliant. what woman's weight doesn't fluctuate during the month? i mean these are the perfect pants. perfect.

MISS MEGHAN TALKS SHOE GIFTS IN THE LAS VEGAS REVIEW

Shoe-In Gifts from the Las Vegas Review Journal

Shoe clips, like those featured above, add instant dazzle to plain shoes. Top, $44, and bottom, $35, both available at www.alizadarik.com

Buff 'n Shine ($13.99), available at www.buffnshine.com or your local Wal-Mart, keeps shoes looking new.

• Dr. Scholl's Ball of Foot, $6.99 each, make a great stocking stuffer for the shoe lover on your list.

"The Perfect Fit: What Your Shoes Say About You" by Meghan Cleary, $12.95, Barnes & Noble

Some gifts are just easier to find than others. Just as some people are easier to buy for than others. Take for instance, the shoe lover. Sure, she loves shoes but will she love the shoes you buy her? Rather than take that chance, Meghan Cleary, author of "The Perfect Fit: What Your Shoes Say About You," offers some tips on how to please her shoe fetish without going shoe shopping. According to Cleary, the key is in buying around the shoe.

1. "Put stockings in their stockings," she said. Tights, whether textured or in a pretty jewel tone, are a great way to highlight her shoe collection. For him, go with cashmere socks that "match the pants, not the shoes."

2. Shoe clips. These cute accessories come in an assortment of styles (beads, pearls, rhinestones or bows) and will turn a pair of plain shoes from ordinary to extraordinary in a quick snap. Clearly recommends www.alizadarik.com and www.absolutelyaudrey.com to purchase them online. If you're more the crafty type, go shopping at your favorite vintage store where you'll find plenty of clip on earrings. Add a little hot glue and voila!

3. Shoe polisher. "If there's one thing that every shoe aficionado needs, it's to protect and maintain the investment by polishing his or her shoes," Cleary said. She recommends Buff 'n Shine ($13.99), available at www.buffnshine.com or your local Wal-Mart.

4. Shoe insoles. A shoe that looks fabulous and a shoe that feels fabulous don't have to be polar opposites. With a good insole, even a stiletto can fit a little more comfortably. The best ones Cleary has come cross are Dr. Scholl's Ball of Foot ($6.99 each). "It's thin, clear and you can use it in different pairs of shoes because they don't have damaging adhesive," she said.

5. Shoe tree. "Shoe trees are inserted into shoes to help maintain the original shoe shape, help prevent creases and cracking and absorb moisture from the lining of the shoes," Cleary said. They're perfect for the gal or guy on the go, too. Pop a shoe tree in your shoe and it will come out of the suitcase with the same shape it had going in.

6. When all else fails, the gift card always comes through. "A gift card to the nearest department or shoes store for post-holiday bargains means the recipient can build a better shoe repertoire and who doesn't love that?" Cleary said. Online shoe stores such as Zappos.com are great too. They let the shoe lover peruse several designers all at once.

CHANNELING YOUR INNER VERSAILLES: BROWN SHOE AND FFANY

Well! I got to see the brand-new super fabulous Brown Shoe showroom today. It is truly divine. For those of you who follow chaussures, you know that this week is FFANY here in New York. That means that thousands of shoe designers and buyers and retailers and shoe obsessed descend on the Pier 94 and various showrooms around the city and talk one thing: shoe.

This morning I got to see Fall 2007 for Via Spiga (gorgeous grey Mary Janes for city girls) and meet the fab new designer, Naturalizer (the new Signature line which is shinily divine and is flying out of the stores), Franco Sarto (city ladies -- there is a MAJOR heel in that line you will freak out over!), Dr. Scholls (note to self: buy multiples pairs of the super lightweight bright colored Scholls for beach this summer), Carlos Santana (gorgeous hunter green high heel oxfords anyone?), and Etienne Aigner (loooove the classics!).

BAREFOOT ON THE TRAPEZE!

Well, i did it. i actually got onto a trapeze and swung. and screamed. and fell. all for my segment on "what's hot in nyc" on gmtv, the UK's version of good morning america. LK Today (which is the part of the show i'm on) is a fab hour of telly as they say, chock full of fun fashion and life tidbits and advice. we also covered the people who make a bacon martini at the east village bar, double down, now i am a bacon lover and even i grew squeamish. the floating bacon in the vodka bottle looked like someone's bits that had been distilling for years. and while helen our producer liked the taste, i found it a bit too savory, shall we say. of course we jetted over to holly's store on perry to talk about the jumper craze and how her amazing bright kelly green, navy and rose jumpers are FLYING out of the store. we also hit Verve where we checked out the blue chie mihara ankle boot that is so soft and fits sooo perfectly. i may have to go back and buy a pair. right now i can barely lift my arms above my head--apparently trapezing uses muscles i did not know i had!

WOMEN DON'T JUST BUY SHOES

We are perhaps on the first step to a matriarchal society; women will earn more money than men if current trends continue by 2028,” . . .Women, Mr. Silverstein added, are “controlling purchases and driving a shift in our economy.”

travel
“Women are making 70 percent of travel decisions, for the family, for their own getaways or for people at work,” said Niki Leondakis, the chief operating officer of Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants in San Francisco.

electronics
“Women are outspending men in our industry $55 billion to $41 billion,” Ms. Gilbert said. “Not only that, they are actually influencing 90 percent of the purchases. It is a new day in consumer electronics.”

big-ticket household purchases
Women accounted for 33 percent of the purchases at big-box retailers in 2005, up from 28 percent in 2003, according to the NPD Group, a consumer research firm. “That’s a huge shift,” said Mark J. Delaney, an NPD analyst, “not to be taken lightly.”

homes
single women are the fastest-growing segment of home buyers, according to the National Association of Realtors, purchasing 21 percent of homes, compared with just 9 percent for single men.

cars
women buy more than 50 percent of the new cars and trucks sold in the United States. In 2005, based on data from National Automobile Dealers Association, that amounted to about $200 billion spent on about eight million new vehicles.

MISS MEGHAN IN THE DAILY NEWS: THESE BOOTS ARE MADE FOR WALKING

Celebrity boot camp
The skinny on how to pair jeans and boots

They may be just fine for walking, but this season's boots were really made for looking totally chic — if you get the look right.

A New York City woman probably racks up more mileage in her boots than anyone, so keeping things perfectly proportioned is essential. When wearing boots over jeans, the goal is to look sleek and sophisticated, with legs that won't quit.

"The knee-high boot is a classic," says Meghan Cleary of http://www.missmeghan.com/, a shoe expert and author of "The Perfect Fit: What Your Shoes Say About You." "Wear them over skinny jeans that tuck neatly into the boots. You want to create a streamlined look."

click here to read the rest of the article

No wonder we're always copying her style. Kate Moss was tucking slinky leggings into boots long before anyone else, so it's no wonder she's got the proportions down perfectly.

MISS MEGHAN ON THE RADIO RITAS LIVE THIS FRIDAY MORNING AT 7:30 AM EST

you can listen live from your computer!

THIS IS HOW THEY ROLL IN SAN FRAN

am loooving it here! had a blast with all the ladies who came on down to Bloomie's to catch the Frye Fall boot collection. we had a blast dancing to the amazing DJ and checking out the brand new San Fran Bloomie's shoe floor. It is gorgeous there! An amazing store. The Frye peeps and I had a blast giving away one pair of Frye Campus boots (a fave of Sarah Jessica Parker) every half hour. Omg. So many fun winners.Jennifer June, the cowboy boot expert, came on down as well and we chatted cowboy boot girls and all about her new boot book coming out next year. caroline and her friends got their books signed and a pic with the superfab bloomies models (see above) ben took pics, eleanor and amanda and i helped him select some gift boots, and after Kurt and I did one final dance, it was time to go back to the W my new fave hotel, and have one of their signature smoothies. everyone in san fran drinks smoothies!

the ever-talented tracey took me in for a few days, where we had a fab dinner party for sarah, i hiked on the beach, did a swim at equinox, met the amazing piperlime ladies, and to top it all off, saw lucinda live at the fillmore. she is one rockin rocker. if i wasn't before i am now her biggest fan. she truly has an amazing voice. she sang some of her new tunes, including "c'mon" which had tracey and i in giggles of recognition.

look! laura and suzanne took a relaxed pic of me. one of few that exist! (see upper right photo on this post).

also discovered this new store--called neda--hello--they carry giuseppe AND terry de havilland!!! omg. a miss meghan dream come true! xo

MISS MEGHAN GIVES THE "MOST AMUSING" SHOE AWARD AT SHOES ON SALE LAST NIGHT

Before we went into this amazing event (1200 people at the Waldorf for sit-down dinner!) Big shout out to Robin and Nicole and the whole team who organized this major event and QVC and FFANY for raising so much money year after year for Breast Cancer treatment and research. I chatted with the nice WireImage man about his shoes (he needed just a bit of polish) in the picture to the left.

Even in my fierce Giuseppe Zanotti four-inch plum patent suede satin bejeweled peep-toe pumps (see first pic above) i was terrified to walk that press line. there were about 500 photographers and truthfully when i saw it, i just wanted to hide behind bebe and slink in quietly! jade helped me, and i ended up having fun with pam from bagtrends, the wireimage videographer, and few other fun people, then we ducked into the event to have a seat and a drink before dinner.

june ambrose looked gorgeous in her bottega gown and giuseppe stiletto sandals--i so admire her elegance and self-possession (see pic above). bebe wore some amaaazing peter fox velvet mules (see pic above) and cracked us all up with her commentary. we chilled for a few then hit the dining room for a fab awards ceremony -- christian louboutin! michael atmore! bebe! fran drescher! carson kressley! nina garcia! -- and a delicious dinner which i got to barely eat because then we whipped into the back to judge the shoe contest.

Fran Drescher, Carson Kressely, Bebe Neuwirth and Michael Atmore and I--were in charge of judging the Most Elegant, Most Sexy and Most Amusing shoes of the eve. We had a blast bantering about who was the mostest and quickly came together with who won what.

Stephen Schwartz was a unanimous winner for Most Amusing, which I got to present. He wore customised Cole Haan black patent slippers with a pink bow and pink diamante. As the publisher of Footwear Plus, he made some lovely comments about how much Shoes on Sale helps people with cancer, a topic close to his heart. And ours. Hi Grandma!

Then Mya came out and sang four songs--she is amazing. i think she was wearing four inch stilettos too and she was dancing up a storm quite effortlessly. i want to learn to do that!

By the end of the night, I was reclining in a big puffy chair in the coat check area, and falling asleep in the car on the way home. a delicious night of shoe i must say.

Image above from Wireimage.com :Miss Meghan/ Shoe Therapist- She wears Richard Tyler Couture, and Giuseppe Zanotti shoes. BOVINES, BALLET FLATS AND BABES

what whirlwind weekend. first shoe therapy with the fabulous justine! we had a blast and i even took her wayyy outside her comfort zone with some sparkly ballet flats that were encrusted with super intense rose-gold glitter. she opted for two very cute pairs of sleek pointy toe flats in an incredible leather. we hit the bergdorf, sergio, ferragamo and even macy's (gasp!) in our quest and i must say there is a massive GAP in the marketplace for sexy, unusual flat boots (although I do love these.) so i am on the hunt!

next stop of the weekend was bovina for the increasingly more famous every year, livestock festival. roscoe rocked -- and marylee did one of her amazing bob dylan covers, bands played till 4 am, even tho i fell asleep deep into a brownie and whiskey coma around midnight! the babes of bovina (me, holly, amber, julie, mystelle and jas) posed for pics on the stoop of john's amazing house the next morning (pic to come).

whew.

then shopping in downtown andes where i snagged an amazing vintage bedspread and tasted the delectable niblets from the slow down cafe. slow down is not a jokey, funny ha-ha name, nope, it is reality as time slows down to a standstill when you enter the slow down zone. it is similar to the twilight zone only because you think that if you wanted to be thats low, you might not open a resturant, but instead some other kind of business like, say a sleeping clinic.

SEE WHAT MISS MEGHAN HAS TO SAY ABOUT WHAT YOUR SHOES ARE SAYING TO YOUR MAN!

from Three2Seven.com:

The Shoe Guru

Meghan Cleary tells us what she thinks about our best date shoes. Is this the message you want to send out?

Black pointy sling backs with a covered toe - medium heel. Very Audrey Hepburn.
M: Classic old-school glamour - she is saying to her man, "I expect to be treated like a lady"

My sparkly Miu Miu "disco shoes". They're black and silver, with a four-inch heel and make me smile every time I look down.
M: She is communicating, her sense of fun, humor and that she doesn't take life too seriously but at the same time enjoys dressing up and being girly.

OH DEER!

The whimsical little sister company of Deer Stag, known for their sturdy outdoor boots and sandals, embraces the fun and glamour of playing dress up with their golden age Hollywood starlet-inspired line of platforms, stilettos, and peep-toes. At their reasonable price point ($110-$200), you can channel your inner movie star in styles you see right now on the red carpet without the red carpet price tag.

MISS MEGHAN'S PLATFORM MANIFESTO IN THE DAILY NEWS

a bit of the first paragraphs below:

Stand tall, women of New York
Sure, the platform shoe seems scary. But try the mile-high kicks and see for yourself what it's like at the top

by Meghan Cleary

Ladies, listen up. It's a new season, there is a bit of a nip in the air, and the stores are full of a delicious shoe - the platform.

They are sexier, higher and more fun than ever before.

But "Oh!" you gasp, "they are too high, to wobby, too . . . stripper."

Get over it, and get into it. Platforms are here to stay, and if you are an intelligent woman, which I know you are, you'll master how to make your platforms work for you.

More than Stilettos, more than the Kitten Heel, and much, much more than the sensible Ballet Flat, platforms make you a tower of strength. Tall and majestic, you can now peer above everyone's head and spot that cab two blocks away (and grab it before the non-platformed rabble below you even see it.) You can pluck items off high shelves with ease, and now men must look up to you, much like the ancient Greek actors who wore elevated platforms to raise themselves up from mere mortal to godlike status. . .

LIFE, LOVE AND STILETTOS

Miss Meg's new monthly column, Life, Love & Stilettos, is now up at HotForShoes!

Every month, Meghan will address the conundrums of the modern goddess and her shoes. From PMS & Pumps to Heartbreak in a Shoe-box, Meghan writes the narrative of a woman in the city navigating her way, from the ground up.

I.

For every woman, there is a shoe

Sometimes I want to be Courtney Love; hair unwashed, kinda dirty and wayyyy out there. Sometimes I want to be Jennifer Lopez; sleek, glam and couture. Sometimes I feel more like Sleater-Kinney; wanting to wail on whatever instrument is closest to me. And sometimes, I want to be Oprah; rockin’ a serious business suit in the boardroom.

It’s pretty much the conundrum of the modern goddess. We’re all trying to incorporate our high-fashion moment with our actual lives. The days where we hit the ground running, barefoot out of bed, mascara flaking down our faces from the charity event we were at the night before, or the day where we wake up and we’re on deadline, or the kids are late for school, or we can’t seem to find our Blackberry and lipstick and keys in the rush to get out of the house in the morning. . .
